Best Hair Loss Supplements

Best Hair Loss Supplements

I never thought of including hair loss supplements in our quest to manage our hair loss issues.

Objectively, the products that hubby and I have tried, particularly the combination of Art Naturals Organic Argan Oil shampoo, Nanogen hair serum and Jamaican Black Castor Oil have improved our hair condition and helped to reduce the amount of hair lost.

However, there are times when we lose more hair than usual, particularly when we are out of the country. As the products that we use remain the same, I can’t help but point my finger at external factors such as the water or weather as causes for the occasional ‘increased’ hair fall.

For instance, our hair tend to drop more when we are in Melbourne, Australia and when we wash our hair in Malaysia, the texture of our hair is ‘rougher’. I can’t say the same though over in Germany. There is of course the usual hair loss but our hair feels so much smoother to the touch (in Germany). No conditioner is required at all!

In any case, the quest to manage hair loss is a continual effort … one that can’t stop!

Best Hair Loss Supplements

As I mentioned before, we have never tried any vitamins or supplements that claim to aid in hair loss or improve hair growth.

So whatever supplements we choose to try, it’s going to be a gamble because we really wouldn’t know how it’s going to work out for us.

As I look around, I have identified (at this point) three of the ‘best’ hair loss supplements that I base on their popularity with real users.

1. Nutrafol Hair Vitamins

Nutrafol Women reviewsThis is the most recent one I got to know about. I stumbled upon it while researching on nutraceutical products for hair loss.

Users’ Opinion :
Women : 4 out of 5 stars
Men : 3 out of 5 stars

Capacity : 120 capsules for 1 month supply (You are recommended to take 4 capsules a day)

Expected Results : Seen in 2 – 3 months

THIS is what users are saying about Nutrafol!

Pros

Nutrafol claims that this vitamin is different to others in the market in that it not only tackles a single cause of hair loss arising from nutritional deficiencies. Unlike other vitamins which typically contains biotin to fight this deficiency, Nutrafol packed other ingredients into its hair loss capsules to manage other causes of hair loss that includes scalp inflammation and increased cortisol (our stress hormones).

Interestingly, an ancient Ayurvedic herb called Ashwagandha, is also incorporated in this concoction to combat spikes in cortisol.

Generally, more women gave a higher rating for Nutrafol as compared to men with most women reporting a decrease in hair fall after an average of two months consumption.

Cons

I would say Nutrafol is pricier than other supplements, particularly that it’s recommended you take four capsules a day.

As the ingredients are packed in a capsule, I believe it might be a concern to Muslims and vegans/vegetarians if animal-based gelatin is used.

However, I had posed this question and have been assured that the supplements are made with vegetable cellulose capsules.

In addition, they don’t contain soy, eggs, dairy, gluten, milk, peanuts, shellfish, tree nuts, wheat, yeast, artificial flavors or colors.

2. Ultrax Labs Hair Maxx DHT Vitamin Supplement

Ultrax Labs Hair Maxx Review

Users’ Opinion :
For both men and women, close to 3,000 users gave an average of 4.3 out of 5 stars (as of November 2017)

Capacity : 60 tablets for 1 month supply (2 tablets a day)

Expected Results : Seen in 90 days

This supplement is formulated with solubilized keratin.

Like collagen, keratin is a type of structural protein that contributes to the health of our hair, nails and skin.

However, ageing process reduces the amount of keratin produced in the body, leading to hair loss, brittle nails and wrinkled, dry skin.

THIS is what users are saying about Ultrax Labs Hair Maxx!

Ultrax Labs claims that as solubilized keratin is easily absorped by the body, this supplement can help in replenishing lost keratin for healthier, thicker hair.

The supplement is packed with over 20 ingredients which include saw palmetto, nettle leaf powder, pumpkin seed powder, biotin (vitamin B7), vitamin B6, zinc and magnesium.

Pros

Unlike Nutrafol, the formulation for both men and women are the same for Ultrax Labs hair supplement.

It is recommended that you take two tablets a day, meaning that one bottle of the 60 vitamin tablets would last you a month. At the current price of US$60, it’s certainly cheaper than Nutrafol.

With thousands of users giving this product an average of 4.3 stars out of 5 (not many products get this rating), it’s hard to discredit the positive effects of the supplement in managing hair loss/stimulating hair growth.

Many not only reported faster hair growth but also better-textured, smoother hair.

However, I do believe that the supplement must be complemented with other effective products like shampoo, conditioner and serum for optimum results.

Cons

While some users claim to have seen a positive difference within two to three weeks of consumption, for others the results are not the immediate. Some users claimed they don’t see much difference until the second month.

Objectively, with any new product that you try, it’s best to use it for at least two months before you decide whether it is something you want to continue with.

3. Hairfluence by Zhou

HairfluenceWhen I first came across Hairfluence, I thought it’s a China-manufactured product.

But how wrong I was. The vitamins are actually manufactured in the United States under Zhou, a Kansas City-based food supplements and nutrition company.

Users’ Opinion :
For both men and women, close to 2,500 users giving positive reviews – an average of 4.3 out of 5 stars, (as of November 2017)

Capacity : 60 veggie capsules for 1 month supply (2 capsules a day)

Expected Results : Seen in 90 days

Another issue that almost put me off from even considering the product is actually its price. An effective product can’t be that … cheap, right?

Again, I might be proven wrong … as I realized that there are not hundreds but close to 2,500 users giving the product positive reviews. That’s got to say something about the product!

THIS is what users are saying about Hairfluence!

Pros

The vitamins are packed with some wholesome ingredients in veggie capsules :

Biotin – Prevents hair loss, breakage & promotes overall healthy hair; for both existing hair and new growth.

Bamboo Extract – Bamboo extract naturally contains a high concentration of Silica, an essential nutrient that nourishes vital tissues in hair, skin and nails; encourages a healthier, more youthful appearance.

Collagen (Hydrolyzed) – Natural antioxidant providing 18 essential amino acids found to generate faster, healthier cell growth in hair, skin & nails.

MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) – Naturally-occurring compound found in many foods; aids the body’s production of collagen, promoting supple skin & hair.

Keratin – Naturally-occurring protein in the body; aids in protecting and repairing damaged hair.

Vitamin B12 – Essential to red blood cell formation, which carries oxygen to scalp and hair follicles.

Vitamin D3 Promotes the creation of new hair follicles and may “wake up” dormant follicles, providing fuller & more voluminous hair.

Thiamin (E) Promotes lush, strong hair.

Perhap owing to its contents, users claim Hairfluence not only helps with hair loss issues. Some users have claimed healther skin and nails as well.

Its competitive price is certainly a boon!

Cons

While thousands have benefited from the product’s ingredients, there are users who said they have not noticed any difference in hair condition despite finishing two bottles of the vitamins.

My Take

There are certainly hundreds of supplements/vitamins out there that claim to be able to help in managing hair loss issues.

I’ve chosen these three based on the ingredients used as well as reviews received from users.

While these supplements have their merits, I believe their effectiveness depends in part on how one’s body take to the ingredients contained in the supplements.

In addition, we must be realistic in our expectations of the results. For instance, you can’t expect your hair to grow fast overnight, particularly if you are already having bald patches.

It is also wise to try a product for at least two months to see its effect, unless you develop rashes or something undesirable, in which case, it’s best to stop immediately!
